The Lutwidge Arms Hotel dates back to the 1850's and taking the name of the Lutwidge family of Holmrook Hall, (who includes Lewis Carroll of Alice in Wonderland fame), it combined the roles of working farm and Inn for may years. The Lutwidge Arms is set in the pretty riverside village of Holmrook on the A595 midway between Ulverston and Whitehaven. It is only 3 miles from the sea and nearby can be found the magnificent walkers paradise of Wasdale and Eskdale. It is in fact only nine miles from the Hotel to the highest point in England, Scafell Pike.
