Passionate
people, passionate places, that would sum up what
North East England has to offer. Modern cities
and beautiful countryside showcase innovation,
with a rich heritage, picturesque scenery and
a warm welcome from the people that live here.
North East England is also a place of contrast.
The right-hand side is seaside and the left-hand
side heathery hills and moody mountains with the
famous World Heritage Site Hadrian's Wall running
right through the middle. Enjoy yourself by walking
along St Cuthbert’s Way or take the hike
of your life up the Pennine Way. Whatever your
choice of walk, North East England offers a broad
range of different types of walks to suit all
ages and ability.
Sparkling cities like Newcastle, Gateshead and
Durham are thriving with lots of shopping and
plenty of nightlife. Bustling market towns and
pretty villages are scattered around the area.
This region can lay claim to being The Cradle
of English Christianity - St Aidan came to Holy
Island in AD635 and English history was first
written by Bede, at Jarrow. There’s also
Durham, with "the finest Norman Cathedral
in the world".
It has been home to pioneers across the centuries.
The world’s first public railway steamed
into life here and the award-winning Gateshead
Millennium Bridge is one of the world’s
most celebrated pieces of architecture.
