Het omvat ook het moerasgebied van Bronte Country en de stille pracht van de Howardian Hills en de Yorkshire Wolds. De spectaculaire kustlijn kan gerekend worden onder de mooisten in Engeland, en een groot deel ervan is dan ook beschermd gebied.
Het is ook geen verrassing dat Yorkshire trots is op haar verleden en een vleugje geschiedenis is nooit ver weg. Dit was ooit het koninkrijk van de Briganten, een vermaard krijgersvolk, waarvan de hoofdstad gelegen was nabij Aldborough. De Romeinse overheersers vestigden zich in Eboracum, wat nadien door de vikings werd omgedoopt tot Jorvik, om uiteindelijk in de middeleeuwen de naam 'York' te krijgen. Gedurende meer dan 2000 jaar werd hier geschiedenis geschreven.
Van de machtige kastelen in het middeleeuwse Engeland, tot de watermolens die het begin van de Industriële Revolutie aankondigden, een periode die op een levendige manier werd nagebouwd in enkele van de meest tot de verbeelding sprekende musea in het land.
