North Wales

North Wales is a holiday area which attracts lovers of coast and countryside with its long stretches of sandy beaches, craggy mountains, towering headlands and deep valleys. You can plan your holidays around the children or you can de-stress by heading for those proverbial hills, North Wales caters for both possibilities.

To the west lies Snowdon, the highest peak in England and Wales which dominates a rocky mass of mountains, a magnet for climbers and walkers.

An area of outstanding natural beauty, Snowdonia offers such diverse landscapes from the highest mountain ranges, tranquil lakes, fast flowing rivers and a wealth of forest trails to miles of golden sandy beaches on the Lleyn Peninsula. Here you will find some of the best sailing and surfing in Wales.

To the east, in contrast, you will experience a gentler landscape of heather moorlands, green vales and the rolling hills of Wales' Borderlands. Here you can visit one of the many interesting market towns, walk the hills of the Clwydian Range and quiet forest trails or soak up the atmosphere of historic stately homes and gardens.

Inland there are many attractive places to visit. Llangollen with its river views, canal trips, steam railway, Ruthin with its castle and mediaeval banquets, Betsws-y-Coed and the nearby Swallow Falls, the slate caverns at Blaenau Ffestiniog and then over the Menai Bridge to Anglesey.

North Wales has some of Britain's most beautiful vistas, from ocean views to neck-straining panoramas, from formidable castles and hillforts to historic stately homes and blue-rinsed bays.
